Biography

Jane Yolen was born on February 11, 1939 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA. She was a writer and actress, known for The Wild Hunt, Owl Moon (1990) and Reading Rainbow (1983). She was married to David W. Stemple. She died on June 11, 2026 in Hatfield, Massachusetts, USA.

She had owned a house in Scotland.

Part of the board of directors for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators for over 25 years.

From 1986 to 1988, she was president of the Science Fiction Writers Association. She then was named a Damon Knight Grand Master.

Received a master's in education from the University of Massachusetts in 1978.

Graduated Smith College with a BA in 1960. She was already writing poetry and articles.
