Biography

Takashi Yamazaki was born on June 12, 1964 in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan. He is a producer and director, known for Godzilla Minus One (2023), The Fighter Pilot (2013) and Always: Sunset on Third Street (2005). He has been married to Shimako Sato since April 2012.

Yamazaki Takashi was hired to film and promote the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

[on making the next Godzilla film after Shin Godzilla (2016)] Shin Godzilla was amazing. When Toho asked me if I would do the next Godzilla movie, I could only think, "I have to follow Shin?!"

I love the original Godzilla, and I felt I should stay true to that spirit, addressing the issues of war and nuclear weapons. There is a concept in Japan called 'tatarigami.' There are good gods, and there are bad gods. Godzilla is half-monster, but it's also half-god.
