Biography

Satsuo Yamamoto was born on July 15, 1910 in Kagoshima, Kagoshima, Japan. He was a director and writer, known for Shiroi Kyotô (1966), The Barren Zone (1976) and The Battle of Manchuria (1970). He died on August 11, 1983 in Tokyo, Japan.

Began in films as an assistant director in 1933. As a director in post-war Japan, he was noted for his strongly anti-authoritarian films (influenced by his own wartime experiences while fighting in Manchuria). He also ran his own production company.
