Biography

Angela Workman has written war dramas, biopics, thrillers and action-adventures for DreamWorks, Searchlight, Focus/Universal, Warner Bros, China Film Group, Showtime, Centropolis, StudioCanal, and other companies in the US, UK, Europe and China.

Angela wrote a feature film about the Bronte sisters, in Haworth and at the British Library in London, for DreamWorks. She wrote about Spanish conquistadors for Roland Emmerich, and about photojournalist Dorothea Lange for David Fincher. In Warsaw she researched and wrote her film about Antonina Zabinska's treacherous wartime fight to save refugees in her zoo, for THE ZOOKEEPER'S WIFE (Focus/Universal). Warner Bros sent her across mainland China to write a film about the treasure fleet of Ming Emperor Zhu Di and his Muslim naval commander Zheng He. She most recently adapted the wartime work of Viktor Frankl for his estate in Vienna.

As a studio screenwriter Angela has been a guest of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Bronte Museum in Haworth, the British Library in London, New York City Ballet, the Jerome Robbins archival library at Lincoln Center, NBC Television archives at Rockefeller Center, and CBS News. She's a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

(September 2014): Angela is writing a romantic drama about New York City Ballet dancer Tanny Le Clercq, loved by both George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, for Spyglass Media.

(September 2015) In production in Prague on "The Zookeeper's Wife," starring Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl. Niki Caro directing. Focus Features and Universal International distributing theatrically in 2017-18. HBO run 2018-2020. Netflix streaming run 2020-2026.

(March 2017) Angela is appearing on panels in New York City, Washington DC, and Los Angeles, on the press tour for "The Zookeeper's Wife," alongside members of the International Rescue Committee. She will be a guest speaker at the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.

(February 2018) Writing an original adventure feature about the opium wars between China and Britain, for LD Entertainment.

(December 2018) Writing and co-producing a film about trailblazing television journalist Nancy Dickerson for Stephen Colbert, Evie Colbert and Showtime. Based on the book "On Her Trail" by CBS journalist John Dickerson, a biography written about his mother.

(October 2020) Amazon acquiring "Lange," produced by David Fincher. Rooney Mara originally set to play photojournalist Dorothea Lange.

(December 2022) Adapting "Man's Search for Meaning," Viktor Frankl's seminal book about war, survival and purpose, for Kate Cohen, Tony Robbins, and the Frankl estate in Vienna.

(March 2024): Adapting MACBETH as an erotic gothic thriller told through the eyes of Lady Macbeth, sister of the prophet hags, married to a mortal and in loss of her witchy foresight, turned now to human ambition and murder.
