Frank Woods

Biography

Frank Woods

Biography

  • Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Woods is a graduate of Lamar High School.

After showing a love and aptitude for painting and drawing, he received a two-year scholarship to the Texas Academy of Art.

After graduating from there he attended the University of Houston for one year as an Art History major.

During this time he also worked evenings for the Houston Post, a major newspaper at that time in Houston. While in art school he was promoted to a position of editorial artist, working exclusively in the editorial department of the paper.

Later, Woods entered into service with the U.S.Army and, after testing in the highest percentiles of the Army, was chosen to train at the Defense Atomic Support Agency at Sandia Base, New Mexico, as a nuclear weapons specialist. After training he led a team for the remainder of his service time maintaining and servicing warheads for Nike Hercules missile systems.

After leaving the service he received a diploma from E.C.P.I. in computer programming and briefly worked for the City of Houston in their data processing department.

Wanting to continue with his art career, Woods and his wife sold all their belongings and moved to Paris, France, where he worked as a fine artist for several years.

During this time he also wrote travel articles for his former newspaper. After this period, he returned home and eventually opened a studio and art gallery in Houston, Texas.

After a few years he closed the gallery and left Texas, maintaining studios in various locations over the next decade in Austin, Florida, and Santa Fe.

In the 80's he moved to Los Angeles, and while continuing to paint, also started pursuing his second career love as an actor... immediately earning his SAG membership and a year later joining AFTRA.

Over the coming decades he worked on over 500 productions in every aspect of the entertainment industry: principal actor in film, television, industrials and commercials, stand-in and body double for many A-list actors, production assistant, stuntman, background artist and more.

In addition he wrote and produced several plays, and in 2014 published his first novel, a young-adult science fiction work.

Although now semi-retired in New Mexico, he continues to paint and appear occasionally in productions in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico area.
