- Supposedly Doreen's suicide came about as a result of a fractured romance. Columnist Dorothy Kilgallen reported that her great love was a comedian. Supposedly the comedian left for Miami when he saw the headlines about her suicide.
- A beautiful trained dancer, Doreen was apparently being groomed as a star by Columbia's Harry Cohn, possibly as competition for the reigning queen, Kim Novak. While in dance rehearsals for the Novak starrer Pal Joey, Doreen unexpectedly committed suicide.
