Trivia

  • Wrote the landmark DC Comics comic book series Crisis on Infinite Earths, only 12 issues and released from April 1985 to March 1986.
  • Marv Wolfman helped expand the concept of comprehensive credits for writers in mainstream comic books. This occurred in 1969 when the DC Comics horror comic, "House of Secrets," #83 had the host character in the issue's framing story mention that he is going to tell a story, written by Marv Wolfman, that he said was told to him by a "Wandering Wolfman," The American comic book censor bureau, the Comics Code Authority, refused to approve the story because that line meant that it had a werewolf in it, which was explicitly forbidden by the Code. Wolfman's editor protested and explained that he wrote the line because the writer's actual surname is Wolfman. In response, the CCA insisted on a formal writing credit in the story to show that fact, which was done. After that incident, all the talent at DC Comics demanded that they have their own names be given equivalent credits and thus official credits became standard practice.
  • Created the current iteration of Robin (Robin III/Tim Drake) for DC comics. The character has remained popular for nearly twenty years and has its own self-titled long-running series.
  • Created the character of Hannibal King (played by Ryan Reynolds in Blade: Trinity (2004)) for the comic book "Tomb of Dracula" #25.
  • Former Editor-In-Chief of Marvel Comics Group/Marvel Comics from 1975 to 1976.

Quotes

  • Hannibal King came out of my love for the old 30s/40s mystery stories. King's very much in that great tradition of hard-boiled detectives, but he has one thing extra going for him: vampire abilities that let him see things and do things ordinary detectives could only wish for. The first Hannibal King story kept his vampire origins secret until the very last panel, although clues were liberally sprinkled throughout the issue.
