- He was the first actor to play Davros, the mad scientist and creator of the Daleks, in Doctor Who (1963), appearing in the serial Genesis of the Daleks: Part One (1975). He was asked to play Davros again in both Destiny of the Daleks: Episode One (1979) and Resurrection of the Daleks: Part One (1984), but stage tours prevented him from reprising the role. He was succeeded in the role by David Gooderson, Terry Molloy and Julian Bleach.
