Paul Winters is an American filmmaker. His career spans acting, directing, cinematography, producing, and writing. He serves as Co-CEO of Winters Film Group, an independent motion picture studio that develops, finances, produces, and distributes feature films and television. Its distribution brand, Flixwest, brings the company's films and those of other independent filmmakers directly to audiences through theatrical exhibition, streaming, and international sales.
Winters began his Hollywood career as a storyboard artist before transitioning into producing and directing. He went on to produce and executive produce projects for all of the major Hollywood studios and television networks and served as a television producer and showrunner. Alongside his studio work, he built a career as an independent writer and director.
Winters also became an award-winning director of photography, lensing feature films, commercials, documentaries, political campaigns, and music videos for a wide range of filmmakers. His distinctive visual approach has made cinematography an important part of his work as a filmmaker.
Acting has remained a central part of Winters' career. He studied for many years with legendary acting teacher Jeff Corey and was an original member of Zoo District, the acclaimed Los Angeles theater company that emerged from the downtown Arts District in the late 1990s. Winters appeared in numerous Zoo District productions, including the company's first production, The Descent. His stage work also included playing General George Armstrong Custer in Custer at the Ventura Civic Center. He continues to work as an actor in film and television.
Together with Co-CEO Patty Winters, Winters leads the company's growing slate of motion pictures and original programming. He starred in and directed the Western Bountiful, released theatrically through Flixwest.
A graduate of California College of the Arts, Winters studied painting, printmaking, and filmmaking. He remains an active painter, continuing the visual arts practice that preceded his career in motion pictures.
