Biography

Jean Winstanley was born in 1913 in Lancashire, England as Jean Beattie Winstanley.

She studied Sculpture at Manchester Regional College of Art and Design and was a member of the art college theatre group.

She studied Acting at RADA, graduating in 1934.

She spent time with the Manchester Repertory Theatre.

She met fellow actor John Ford whilst they were understudying the leading roles in John Geilgud's Shakepearian production of Romeo Juliet and they married three months later.

She appeared in the film Said O'Reilly to McNab (1937) and television film The White Chateau (1938).
