  • William Williamson is an award-winning British director working across documentary, fiction and moving image. His work is grounded in intimate, emotionally driven storytelling that explores the human condition. His films have screened internationally at festivals, galleries and cultural institutions. His first short documentary, The Silent Conversation, made in Pakistan with DAZED, won Best Film at the Madrid Film Festival and screened at the Edinburgh Peace Conference. His short film You, starring Derek Jacobi, screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Channel 4 Award for Innovative Storytelling. His critically acclaimed visual essay, The Question of Love (2019), featuring Alain Badiou, has been translated into seven languages, viewed over a million times online, and remains one of Nownesse’s most celebrated releases. Alongside his independent work, William has directed and developed projects for HBO, Channel 4, Netflix, Vice, i-D and Dazed. His television work includes British Asian Sound Systems, executive produced by Riz Ahmed, and most recently, HBO’s Boom Box: Beats and Betrayal (2026), which he led the development of at Rogan Productions. He has also directed music videos for Philip Selway of Radiohead and Keaton Henson, both of whom he is currently developing feature films with.
