Rosemary Williams was an American showgirl and performer active in the late 1940s and early 1950s who briefly captured the public's eye through both photography and the Broadway stage. In the spring of 1949, a young Stanley Kubrick - then a staff photographer for LOOK magazine - created an extended photo essay featuring Williams as she navigated life offstage and backstage as a chorus girl, mixing candid moments at home with posed theatrical portraits that showcased her dual identity as both everyday woman and aspiring performer. These images vividly illustrated the construction of her public image and remain part of the Museum of the City of New York's Kubrick archive.
Williams went on to work in musical theatre, and documentation from the Museum indicates that she appeared on Broadway in Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1953 musical comedy Me and Juliet as a chorus performer alongside a young Shirley MacLaine, who was then just beginning her own long career in film and theatre.
