Claimed in many interviews that her favorite "leading man" was Rin Tin Tin Jr..

Both her older sister (at age 6) and grandfather died in tragic fire-related accidents. Her sister's clothes went up in flames by a lighted birthday candle (she died a day later from her burns) and her grandfather perished in a kitchen home fire that was ignited by a stove. Years later Lois herself was injured at the Hotel Astor in New York during a fashion show when a curling iron accidentally shot out flames and burned her right hand and arm.

Her fourth and last marriage was to realtor and land appraiser Gilbert Denton Buck, who was 20 years her junior. The union was a happy one that lasted 32 years and ended with his cancer-related death in 1986 at age 58.

According to Merrill T. McCord, who wrote an article on Lois for "Classic Images" magazine in 2006, Lois actually won the Miss America title in 1923, but the honor was rescinded after the judges were informed that she was a performing professional.

Attended a professional children's school where one of her fellow classmates was Ruby Keeler. They became lifelong friends.

Married four times, she met her first husband, Leslie Sherriff, when he was working as a Ziegfeld Follies musician in the George Olsen Band. They had a daughter, Marjorie, who later became a physician. Married for 12 years, they were estranged for over half the time.
