Biography

Peter Whitehead was born on January 8, 1937 in Liverpool, England, UK. He was a director and cinematographer, known for Fire in the Water (1977), Terrorism Considered as One of the Fine Arts (2009) and The Benefit of the Doubt (1967). He was married to Liza Tsyzina-Whitehead, Dido Goldsmith and Diane Leigh. He died on June 10, 2019 in London, England, UK.

When the director's interest in filmmaking began to wane, one of the other interests he turned to was falconry.He directed a falcon center in Saudi Arabia and became chief falconer to that country's royal family.His falconry exploits inspired a 1998 Tv movie, The Falconer.

His former wife Dido Goldsmith is the daughter of environmentalist Edward Goldsmith and the niece of Sir James Goldsmith. Their daughter Robin was a filmmaker.

He had a son with Coral Atkins.
