- Is thus far, the last British royal child born to a reigning monarch. It's believed it might be a long time until it happens again.
- In December 2001 his wife Sophie underwent surgery after suffering an ectopic pregnancy -- where the baby develops outside the womb. She was about 7 weeks pregnant. Their first child Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Windsor, was born on 8 November 2003.
- After their marriage, the Earl and Countess of Wessex announced that (with Queen Elizabeth II's permission) any future children of theirs would not be styled as princes or princesses and a "His/Her Royal Highness", but would be styled "Lord" or "Lady," as children of a peer. The reasoning behind their decision was to give a lower profile to their children and shield them from media interest.
- On March 10, 2023, he was created Duke of Edinburgh by his brother King Charles III. The dukedom was previously held by their father, Prince Philip, and was automatically inherited by Charles after Philip's death in 2021. After Charles ascended to the British throne in 2022, the title merged with the crown and ceased to exist and was free to confer again. The dukedom will only exist for the lifetime of Edward, and will not be inherited by Edward's son James.
- Son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
