Biography

Herbert Wernicke was born on March 24, 1946 in Auggen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He was a costume designer and production designer, known for Giulio Cesare (2004), La belle Hélène (1999) and Montezuma (1982). He was married to Desiree Meiser. He died on April 16, 2002 in Basel, Basel-Stadt, Switzerland.

Also survived by his companion, Mareike Uhlig, of Basel.

His work for the Munich production of the 'Flying Dutchman' in 1981 proved so controversial that he was not invited back to the opera house until 1997.
