Biography

Ernst Wendt was born on July 12, 1937 in Hannover, Germany. He was a director and actor, known for Per Anhalter ins All (1981), Dona Rosita oder Die Sprache der Blumen (1978) and Tatort (1970). He died on August 12, 1986 in Munich, Germany.

In 1980, Wendt was awarded the German Critics' Prize.

Ernst Wendt was a German radio play and theatre director.

Wendt began his theater career in 1960 as a theater critic.

In 1986, he joined the Theater in der Josefstadt as senior director and dramaturge, along with the designated director, Boy Gobert. Both died during the preparatory phase before the start of their first season together.

Together with Henning Rischbieter and publisher Erhard Friedrich, he founded Theater heute, the most important theater magazine to date, in 1960 while studying economics. With his reviews, which demonstrated not only literary quality and great expertise but also great empathy, he played a significant role in establishing a new directing style in German theater.
