Biography

Richard J. Wellsis an award-winning film production veteran with over 30 years of experience as director, writer and producer as well as production executive. Most recently, Richard received a Primetime EMMY award for his contributions as National Geographic Channel's executive producer on the highly acclaimed documentary SPACE DIVE while two of his other projects KILLING LINCOLN and KILLING KENNEDY were nominated for 3 Primetime EMMYs each.

Richard oversaw innovative series such as INSIDE COMBAT RESCUE, CAR CZAR, THE NUMBERS GAME, MAMMOTH UNEARTHED, and AMISH: OUT OF ORDER. For Edgework media Richard executive-produced, among others projects, the extremely successful series WHAT THE ANCIENTS KNEW for the Science Channel.

From 1996-2003 Richard served as Vice President of Production for TLC where he launched the popular and award-winning shows TRADING SPACES, JUNKYARD WARS, WHILE YOU WERE OUT and WHAT NOT TO WEAR.

Under Richard's guidance, many productions have won prestigious industry awards, most notably: the theatrical release documentary ON THE ROPES which received an Oscar Nomination, the Sundance Filmfestival Award, the Worldfest Houston Gold Medal, The Golden Gate, the Silver Spire, and The International Documentary Association Award.
