Kay had a premonition the night of the 1994 Northridge 6.8-magnitude earthquake and, thinking it would be safer, decided to sleep downstairs in her home located in the nearby community of Toluca Lake. She found herself buried in reading material as the bookshelf next to the couch on which she was sleeping fell and emptied itself on top of her, leaving her temporarily stranded, until subsequently rescued by a neighbor who, hearing her muffled moans, broke into the house.

Kay, who was born in Portland, OR, became friends with the famous cartoon voice artist Mel Blanc who was also raised in Portland.

For many years, Kay was the radio voice of Elsie the Cow.

Performed the role of Mrs. Hannigan in "Annie" during the summer of 1982 (at age 67), including choreography that included high kicks.

Was a big-band singer. Sang with the Anson Weeks' Orchestra. One of the songs she introduced to the public was the popular "I Only Have Eyes for You".

Kay's daughter with Jack Carson, Germaine Catherine Carson, died of multiple cancers on April 12, 2010. In his will, Jack had reversed her first and middle names, requiring her to apply for a legal aka as Catherine Germaine Carson, the name she was using at her death.
