Miss South Carolina USA 1980.

Shawn Weatherly was the fifth Miss United States to hold the Miss Universe crown. Weatherly was crowned Miss Universe in 1980, making her the fifth American to win the title.

Miss Universe 1980 was held at the Sejong Cultural Center in Seoul, South Korea. The first time the competition was staged in Asia.

Her father, Lt. Col. Albert Thomas Weatherly, Jr. (USAF Ret) passed away on August 17, 1984 in Sumter, South Carolina while Oceanquest (1985) was in production. He spent 27 years in the USAF and had recently retired from the Colonial Real Estate Company. He was 62.

Graduated from Clemson University in 1982.

Has scars on her knees from two operations in high school to repair cartilage damage from track injuries.

Lost her mother Jo Anne Weatherly née Powell to cancer when she was nine years old on March 1, 1968. She was 37.

Placed 1st Runner-Up at Miss South Carolina 1978 as Miss Sumter.

Along with Miss USA Jineane Ford, Weatherly sent special Valentine cards as a welcome back gesture to each of the nine marines held in Iranian captivity for 444 days, upon their return in 1981.

Has two children with her husband: Jackson "Jack" Thomas Harris (b. March 6, 1995) in Los Angeles and Jessica "Jessie" Lee Harris.
