- Shawn Weatherly was the fifth Miss United States to hold the Miss Universe crown. Weatherly was crowned Miss Universe in 1980, making her the fifth American to win the title.

- Her father, Lt. Col. Albert Thomas Weatherly, Jr. (USAF Ret) passed away on August 17, 1984 in Sumter, South Carolina while Oceanquest (1985) was in production. He spent 27 years in the USAF and had recently retired from the Colonial Real Estate Company. He was 62.
