George Manker Watters(1892-1943)

George Manker Watters was the youngest of three children raised by his
widowed father, Michael Watters. His parents came to America from
Germany in 1890, where his father found work as a teamster. Watters was
born on April 27, 1892 at Rochester, New York and lost his mother
sometime before the taking of the 1900 US Census.
Playwright George Manker Watters move to Hollywood came not long after the success of "Burlesque" that he co-wrote in 1926 with Arthur Hopkins. There he would work as a screenwriter on a number of important films, produce and become a theater chain executive. At the time of his untimely death at age 50, Watters was an executive assistant to the president of Fox West Coast Theatres.
Watters passed away after battling heart disease on March 14, 1943, at his Los Angeles home. He was survived by his wife, Tamazon, son George Jr. and daughter, Tamie.
