Dennis Waterman

Overview

Dennis Waterman was born on February 24, 1948 in Clapham, London, England, UK. He was an actor, known for New Tricks (2003), Sweeney 2 (1978) and On the Up (1990). He was married to Pam Flint, Rula Lenska, Patricia Maynard and Penny Dixon. He died on May 8, 2022 in Spain.

A singer as well as an actor, he had a number three single in the U.K. with the song "I Could Be So Good for You" in October 1980, which was the theme of Minder (1979). His duet with Minder co-star George Cole, "What Are We Gonna Get 'Er Indoors?", reached the number 21 position on the UK chart in 1983. He also sang the theme song for New Tricks (2003).
Mercilessly lampooned on Little Britain (2003) as a midget who keeps losing contracts by insisting on singing the theme song for the proposed show. Waterman got his revenge by making a surprise appearance in the charity presentation Comic Relief Does Little Britain: Live (2007), interrupting Walliams and Lucas performing a version of their Dennis Waterman sketch. During his appearance, Waterman gets to complain that he does not have a high voice, is not "a midget," and does not sing or write the theme tune of all his shows. To apologize, Walliams and Lucas perform one of Waterman's songs with him.
An avid fan of Chelsea Football Club, London. Ironically, as Terry McCann, his character in Minder (1979), he had to play a fan of Fulham football Club who are Chelsea's local rivals from London.
Had an affair with actress Amanda Redman in 1983.
Waterman died in hospital in Spain on 8 May 2022 at the age of 74 after a two-year battle with lung cancer.

[in 2012] You have to remind yourself that people aren't as stupid as writers think. But that's the way things are going in the industry. Basically, we all want to move to Copenhagen to get to do some extraordinary television.
The problem with strong, intelligent women is that they can argue, well. And if there is a time where you can't get a word in ... and I ... I lashed out. I couldn't end the argument. If a woman is a bit of a power freak and determined to put you down, and if you're not bright enough to do it with words, it can happen.
I was worried I wasn't much of a role model. I said, 'You've seen how I live - the drinking, the smoking and the various other things I get up to. Well, you don't have to be the same. In fact, it might be a very good idea not to drink as much as I do, to smoke as much as I do - to do anything I do, as much as I do!
I must have punched her one time because she did have a black eye ... she certainly wasn't a beaten wife, she was hit and that's different.
