- Biography of William James Ware aka "Bill"
Bill was born & raised in West Virginia. He had 3 older brothers & a younger sister. At age 6 he was "farmed out" to an Aunt & Uncle who raised him till he graduated High school at age 17. He worked the farm & he & his Uncle worked the gas field until he left home. Work ethic was instilled in him at a very early age.
His father died when Bill was 16 & his mother died when he was 19, although he had no contact with his father & very little with mother.
Bill was no stranger playing the part as Marshal Sam Tillman in the movie Bad Jim. Bill’s actual career as a lawman spanned over 25 yrs when he played the part as Tillman in Bad Jim.
In fact his brother Clyde Ware who wrote & produced the film thought brother Bill was just right for the part. Bill actually was Chief of Police for the Helena Police Dept in Montana when he was cast for the movie Bad Jim. Although "killed" in the movie Bill went on to retire as Chief of Police in Helena serving in that position for 15 yrs (1981- 1996). He then went on to Laramie, Wyoming as Chief of Police from 1996-2001 & then ran for sheriff in Northeastern Wyoming & was elected twice serving 8 more years as a lawman.
Billy’s career started with the FBI in 1962 & then Metropolitan Police Dept until 1966. He & his bride Sharon a Montana native moved to eastern Montana when Bill resumed in law enforcement his entire working life retiring in 2010. He attributes his successful career to God & his wife Sharon & his daughters Kim & Kerry who stood by his side throughout his career
