- Her parents were drama teachers and cast her in plays they produced. When she was 9, her mother's job at a modeling agency led to her doing commercials for local department stores. By the time she was 12, she already had an extensive portfolio, and traveled to Japan for modeling assignments which lasted for six years. She also briefly hosted a Japanese TV show.
- The youngest of four children. Her family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, when she was four. Her parents were professional actors who performed small parts on Hawaii Five-O (1968) and Magnum, P.I. (1980).
