Biography

Gordon Waller was born on June 4, 1945 in Braemar, Grampian, Scotland, UK. He was an actor and composer, known for A Complete Unknown (2024), James Dean: Race with Destiny (1997) and Just for You (1964). He was married to Gay and Jen. He died on July 17, 2009 in Norwich, Connecticut, USA.

The younger member of the 1960s British duo Peter and Gordon, their rendition of "A World Without Love" became the first John Lennon-Paul McCartney composition--not recorded by The Beatles--to reach #1 on the charts (June 1964). Another Lennon-McCartney song, "Nobody I Know", followed soon after. Their 1966 hit release "Woman" was written by McCartney under the pseudonym, "Bernard Webb", as McCartney was eager to see if he could score a hit song without the Lennon-McCartney names attached.

They reunited in 2005 for a tribute to Mike Smith of the The Dave Clark Five. They went on to play concerts around the world. Their last big performance together took place in August 2008 before 17,000 fans. They were joined onstage by longtime friend Joan Baez.

Waller met Peter Asher when they were attending school in London. They broke the school's 9 pm curfew by climbing over its 12-foot wall to play at coffee-houses and nightclubs.

Was a member of the singing duo, Peter and Gordon, whose hit songs included number 1 hit: "World Without Love", written for them by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

After Peter and Gordon disbanded in 1968, Waller had a solo career. He played the role of "The Pharaoh" in the London production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". He also ran a music-publishing concern.
