During pre-production rewrites of "Speed", Walker tried to convince director Jan de Bont to rewrite the scene where Keanu Reeves shoots Jeff Daniels in the leg.

As the law enforcement technical adviser on "Point Break", Walker provided Keanu Reeves his first lessons in weapons handling and shooting at a gun range in Agoura, California. A few years later, as the police technical adviser for "Speed", Walker worked with Keanu Reeves again to help with the authenticity of Keanu's LAPD SWAT character in the film.

Selected by his peers as LAPD Mounted Officer Of The Year in 1997.

In 1988, while working on the LAPD SWAT team, he was shot in the left side of the head and left shoulder during a barricaded suspect incident. He returned to his position on the SWAT team two months later and remained on the SWAT team until 1995.

At the Medal of Valor ceremonies in 1985, Cary Grant and Chief Daryl Gates presented the Medal of Valor to Officer Walker for his participation in the daring rescue of two women being held hostage, in a car, by a known killer armed with a hand gun.

[On working with Randy Walker on "Speed"] Keanu Reeves said: I've worked with a gentleman named Randy Walker, who's LAPD SWAT. That's where I got the gum from. 'Cause he showed me a video of him after an incident where he got shot and he was (still) chewing gum. He's a bad ass. I went, "Man, you're chewing gum!" He's like, "Yeah.".

Considers the original "Dirty Harry" to be the best police movie ever made.
