Daughter of Andrew Felix Waley a senior barrister appointed on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor and decorated Naval Officer and Petica Mary Rose.

Middle of 5 children. Has two older sisters, a younger sister, and younger brother. Younger sister Victoria died in 1962 aged just 20 months.
