- Walerstein is of Mexican and Ashkenazi origin on her father's side, and Cuban and Yugoslavian on her mother's side.
- In 1989, she was crowned Miss Apure, which qualified her to participate in the prestigious Miss Venezuela pageant. She traveled to the "Reina La Costa Internacional 1989" pageant, held in the resort town of Condovac La Costa, Costa Rica, and won the title. She then pursued a career as an actress and model.
- She comes from a family of film lovers and is the granddaughter of Mexican film producer Gregorio Walerstein and daughter of director Mauricio Walerstein.
