After attending school, Lojewski studied economics and law in Kiel, which he completed in 1966 with the first state examination in law. Lojewski began his journalistic work during his student days when he edited the student newspaper; He also volunteered at the "Kieler Nachrichten" in 1959/60. In 1963, Lojewski joined NDR, where he first worked in the Kiel state studio and then in the Hamburg headquarters. The TV journalist then achieved his first public success at NDR3 with the critical-satirical magazine "extra drei". In 1964 Lojewski became a member of the SPD. In 1968 he married the teacher Ute von Lojewski. After an interlude as presenter of the ARD "Tagesschau", Lojewski went to the USA in 1971 as a correspondent for the first station. For several years he reported reliably from Washington on internal events in the United States, such as the Watergate affair.
From 1974 he worked again at the ARD headquarters in Hamburg. There, Lojewski was in charge of the editorial team of the "Weltspiegel" series from 1977 to 1978. From 1979 to 1981 he moderated the "Tagesthemen". In 1982, Lojewski moved to London, where he took over the management of the ARD studio for five years. At that time, his London report "Around Big Ben" became extremely popular with German television audiences. From London, Lojewski went to Washington in 1987 for his second stay in the USA, where he headed the ARD studio until 1992. On the occasion of the manipulations and restrictions on reporting carried out there during the Gulf War in the early 1990s, the ARD correspondent warned against a restriction on the independence of the fourth power. In the spring of 1992, Lojewski moved to ZDF, where he was promoted to head of the editorial team of the "heute journal". In this role, which he also held as a moderator until the beginning of 2003, the journalist impressed with his language skills and the ability to present mere news reports in an expressive, narrative manner.
After working for the ZDF news program for over ten years, Lojewski retired at the beginning of 2003 after presenting his last "heute-journal" program on January 2nd, which also marked the 25th anniversary of the series. The former London ARD correspondent Claus Kleber took over its management. Wolf von Lojewski was awarded the "Golden Camera" in 1995 and the "Telestar" the following year. In 1999 he was honored with the "Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize". Despite his retirement, Lojewski returned to active television in March 2003: He moderated the ZDF magazine "Abenteuer Wissen". On February 8, 2006, Karsten Schwanke took over as presenter of the program, succeeding Lojewski. He also shot several documentaries for ZDF between 2003 and 2009.
