Daniel Voll
Daniel Voll is an award-winning journalist, screenwriter and show runner. His latest feature script, "The Fort Bragg Killings," is based on a true story of racial murders committed by white supremacists in the US military. Voll wrote the SHOWTIME limited series, "Guantanamo," (executive produced by Oliver Stone) and he's written pilots for HBO, AMC and Fox. For MGM, he wrote "Fire Dogs," based on a season he spent fighting forest fires with a convict crew. For network television, he executive-produced "The Unit" (CBS) and "Lie to Me" (Fox), and he was a writer and consulting producer on "The Black List" (NBC). For HBO he wrote, "They F**K You Up," about teen discipline camps, and "An American Love Story," about a brother and sister imprisoned for incest (currently optioned by Anna Paquin).

Prior to his work in television and film, Voll reported from conflict zones around the world for VANITY FAIR, THE NEW YORKER, and ESQUIRE, where he was a long-time contributing editor. His ESQUIRE article, "The Hunter Becomes the Hunted," follows an FBI agent hunting terrorists in Iraq; his article, "A Deeply Misunderstood Mass Murderer," chronicles his hunt through Bosnia for the Serbian war criminal, Radovan Karadzic. A National Magazine Award Finalist, Voll's articles appear in ESQUIRE'S BIG BOOK OF GREAT WRITING, and BEST AMERICAN NON-REQUIRED READING (edited by David Eggers). A collection of his journalism, ON THE RUN WITH MAD BOMBERS, OUTLAW LOVERS AND MOVIE STARS, will be published by Sager Press in 2025.

Also a documentary filmmaker, Voll wrote and produced HBO's, "Soldiers in the Army of God," about the armed wing of the anti-abortion movement (shortlisted for an Oscar); he produced "Shut Up and Sing," about the Dixie Chicks (also shortlisted for an Oscar); and "Crack in the System," about drug kingpin Freeway Rick Ross (Emmy nominated) and the Netflix doc, "Brave Miss World," about sexual assault (Emmy nominated). Voll also executive produced the critically acclaimed 2020 Starz non-fiction series, "Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult," and he's producing a new documentary series for Amazon with Dr. Dre (on the history of Compton) and a new documentary series for Netflix directed by Cecilia Peck. He's also executive producing "Stars in the Dark," a documentary about America's only all blind theater company, currently in post-production.

Voll's play, "Venus Rising," was selected for the Sundance Playwright's Lab, and his play "Dear Mr. President" had its premiere at Naked Angels in NY. A graduate of Duke University, Voll earned his MFA in fiction and playwriting at UC-Irvine.
