She was charged with attempted murder, after she allegedly shot her husband of 25 years, Bruce Rathgeb, from close range in their Hollywood apartment on October 16, 2010. On September 7, 2011, after pleading no contest to charges of attempted voluntary manslaughter, she was sentenced to nine years in prison. She was incarcerated in the Central California Women's Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla and released on parole in April 2018.

In a friendly exchange scene near the beginning of Rosemary's Baby (1968), Mia Farrow meets another young woman who lives in her apartment building and mistakes her for actress Victoria Vetri. The woman says she is not and introduces herself as Terry Gionoffrio. The inside joke is that the woman in the movie actually was Victoria. However, she was billed in the credits as Angela Dorian, the name she used when she posed for "Playboy".

On the night of August 8 and 9, 1969, Tate invited Vetri to her and Polanski's house while the director was away. She declined due to illness. That was the night Tate and four others died at the hands of Charles Manson's followers.

She turned down a role that could have made her a star: the nubile title role in Lolita (1962), which made a sensation out of Sue Lyon.

Gave birth to her first child at age 18, son Bret B. Whettam, on 8/8/63. Child's father is her now ex-husband, Hugh Terry Whettam.

Was erroneously identified as Gary Seven's shapeshifter companion Isis, a scantily dressed beautiful woman in the ending of the original Star Trek (1966) series episode, Assignment: Earth (1968). That character was in fact played by April Tatro.
