Biography

Gerd Vespermann was born on July 24, 1926 in Berlin, Germany. He was an actor, known for Singin' in the Rain (1952), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and Casablanca (1942). He was married to Hannelore Elsner and Christiane. He died on November 25, 2000 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.

Vespermann's wife Christiane didn't tell anyone that her husband had died, not even his closest friends. They found out almost eight months later, in July 2001.

Son of actor Kurt Vespermann and actress Lia Eibenschütz.

Was the German dubbing voice for actors John Garfield, Audie Murphy and Jeremy Brett.

Studied piano at the Musikhochschule Weimar from 1941 to 1944. Subsequently attended acting classes, 1946-47. Seen in supporting roles in films of the 1950's, also active as TV compère and cabaret artiste.
