Tom Verlaine was born on December 13, 1949 in Morristown, New Jersey, USA. He was an actor and composer, known for The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), I'm Not There (2007) and Gold (2016). He died on January 28, 2023 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

Vocalist, songwriter, and lead guitarist for the punk band Television.

Formed his band in New York after running away from a boarding school in Delaware.

He is one of the three guitarist in the super-group "The Million Dollar Bashers" that were assembled specifically for the soundtrack of I'm Not There (2007), alongside Nels Cline from Wilco and Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth.

First iteration of NYC punk-era, art(ish)-rock band Television featured fellow-scenester Richard Hell on bass guitar.

I recently realized that Television has influenced a lot of English bands. Echo and the Bunnymen, U2, Teardrop Explodes - it's obvious what they've listened to and what they're going for. When I was 16 I listened to Yardbirds records and thought 'God this is great.' It's gratifying to think that people listened to Television albums and felt the same.

As peculiar as it sounds, I've always thought that we [Television] were a pop band. You know, I always thought 'Marquee Moon' was a cool bunch of singles. And then I'd realize, Christ, this song is 10 minutes long with two guitar solos.
