Biography

Stéphane Venne was born on July 2, 1941 in Verdun, Québec, Canada. He was a composer and writer, known for The Plouffe Family (1981), Heartbeats (2010) and Seul ou avec d'autres (1962). He was married to Marie Dumais. He died on January 17, 2025 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada.

Lyricist and composer of more than 400 songs including many of the iconic ones of the 60 and 70s.

From 1998, Stéphane Venne worked for the City of Montreal, first as Director of Communications for the Urban Community of Montreal, then as Strategic Advisor to the City's Water Service.

During his career, he was also artistic director of the Quebec record branch "Barclay", a French record label, and director of CIEL-FM, which was notably COOL-FM before becoming a spoken radio, the 98.5.

In April 2024, Stéphane Venne was awarded the insignia of officer of the Order of the Pléiade, a distinction that recognizes the work of people who work for the development of the French language.

The songwriter was the subject of a tribute to the Quebec City International Summer Festival in 2004, as the 30th anniversary of the SuperFrancoFête was marked.
