Biography

Kirill Vats is a Soviet announcer, simultaneous interpreter and film actor.

He was born in Winnipeg, Canada in a family of immigrants from the Russian Empire. With the outbreak of World War II in 1939 and the development of the defense industry in Canada, the family moved to the city of Hamilton, Ontario, where the brothers studied at Westdale Secondary School. At the end of the war, the family decided to emigrate to the USSR, which was carried out in March 1952.

Vats graduated from the translation department of the Moscow Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. He participated in the preparation and conduct of the Moscow Festival of Youth and Students (1957). He worked as an announcer of foreign broadcasting in the African edition of Soviet radio. For 35 years since the beginning of the 1970s, during the time of the holding of major ice hockey tournaments in Moscow, such as the Izvestia Prize, he was invited as an announcer to announce information in English during the match. The hoarse timbre of Kirill's voice, combined with pronounced American English and a way of presenting information, created a feeling among Soviet fans of being at the NHL match.

In 1992-1993 he was the program director of the English-language part of the Open Radio broadcasting. Also worked as an announcer of the GaliX film company.
