Biography

Alberto Vazquez was born in Spanish Harlem, New York. His parents are from Puerto Rico. Alberto was interested in acting since his childhood. He was a television junkie and would imitate characters from popular TV shows in the sixties. He started studying acting in 1975 with Julie Bovasso (Travolta's mother in Saturday Night Fever), then later with Ernie Martina and Geraldine Barron (from the Actors Studio). He started acting in plays at The Henry Street Settlement, Ensemble Studio Theater And American Theater for Actors. He understudied the role of the Dealer in Cuba and his Teddy Bear with Robert DeNiro, And Burt Young on Broadway's Longacre Theater in 1987. Since then he has performed in over 100 plays, commercial, TV and films.

His half brother Francisco Casine was a designer for Pierre Cardin and graduate from Fashion Institute of Technology; he was a classmate of Calvin Klein. Francisco died in 1985 of AIDS.

Ermelinda Vazquez (Alberto's mother) was a PTA (Parent Teachers Association) administrator in Spanish Harlem in the middle sixties. Robert F. Kennedy came personally one day to give opera tickets to the women of that group and Alberto met him that day.

When I started studying acting in 1975, we all were so concerned about becoming good actors with training and doing plays. Nowadays with the young "Hip Hop" generation and the advent of reality TV, everyone thinks that acting is easy, so they say, "I can do that" and unfortunately casting directors enforce that notion by casting them in parts.
