Lukas Vandervost was a champion of the New Theatre, a theatrical form from the 1980s that questioned realistic theatre. Dabaret Salu or Salu was a cabaret program by Vandervost and Sam Bogaerts, created in the drama department of the Antwerp Conservatory. With this, they won the Cameretten cabaret festival.

Vandervost and Bogaerts, together with Luk Perceval, Warre Borgmans, and Johan Van Assche, founded Het Gezelschap Van De Witte Kraai, which later became De Tijd. The group introduced 'thinking speaking' as a reaction to the 'shouting and walking around' in the city theaters.
