Biography

Tommy Vance was born on July 11, 1940 in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, England, UK. He was an actor, known for Slade in Flame (1975), Pressure (1976) and Metal Mickey (1980). He was married to Stella Bursa, Susan Hanson and Fern. He died on March 6, 2005 in Kent, England, UK.

While working as a DJ on the American radio station KOR Seattle in 1964, using the name Rick West, he had to stand in at the last minute for a DJ called Tommy Vance who had failed to arrive, and was billed under this name on the programme. He decided to carry on using this stage name for the rest of his life.

Was the first voice heard over at London's Wembley Stadium speakers', introducing the first act Status Quo, at the Live Aid (1985) event.

Advocated and advanced the musical boundaries by introducing the genre of hard rock and heavy metal to the masses, on British national radio, through the show "The Friday Rock Show", which, in turn, provided the only national radio forum for both bands and fans and ran from November 1978 until April 1993.
