Biography

Raimondo Van Riel was born on January 22, 1881 in Rome, Lazio, Italy. He was an actor, known for Quo Vadis? (1924), The Magnificent Rogue (1935) and Scipione l'africano (1937). He was married to Aidé Bongini. He died on May 9, 1962 in Rome, Lazio, Italy.

In 1924 he impersonated a role for a German production for the first time when he played the role of Tigellinus in the monumental film "Quo Vadis?" (1924) directed by Georg Jacoby and Gabriellino d'Annunzio.

His last cinematical appearance in front of the camera was for the US production "Ben-Hur" (1959).

He impersonated roles at different Italian theaters, among others he joined the troupe of Alfredo Sainati where he remained active between 1909 and 1919.

The actor Raimondo van Riel began his career in Italy where he already appeared at amateur theaters as a student. He continued his ambition to become an actor as an adult and was successful.

He continued his film career as an actor in the 30s both in Germany and later in Italy. At the same time he began a second film career as a make-up artist for the Italian film - an activity he practiced till to the 50s.
