Barry Van Dyke is the second son of legendary entertainer, Dick Van Dyke. He has one older brother, Christian Van Dyke, and two younger sisters, Stacy Van Dyke and Carrie Beth Van Dyke. Barry's TV debut was as "Florian", a violin-toting nine-year-old in The Talented Neighborhood (1962) episode of the classic The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) show. He worked behind the scenes on subsequent ventures of his father's, and has co-starred with him in three series, The Van Dyke Show (1988), Diagnosis Murder (1993) and Murder 101 (2006). Barry's other television work includes Galactica 1980 (1980), Airwolf (1984) (4th season), Gun Shy (1983), Mr. Mom (1983) and The Redd Foxx Show (1986), as well as numerous guest appearances. His films include Foxfire Light (1983), Ants! (1977) (aka ANTS!) and Casino (1980). Barry met his wife, Mary, when they were both sixteen and he was working as a ticket-taker at a neighborhood movie theatre. Seven years later, they were married. They have four children, Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, Wes Van Dyke and Taryn Van Dyke. All four children have guest-starred with their Dad and Grandpa, in scripts written by Barry, on Diagnosis Murder (1993). Barry is an avid motorcyclist with special enthusiasm for dirt bikes. He has participated in protest rides to preserve the rights of motorcyclists to fair use of public lands. He also loves to surf and once rescued a drowning person from the ocean off Baja.

Son of Dick Van Dyke (who is also his acting mentor). Stepson of Arlene Silver. Nephew of actor Jerry Van Dyke. Brother of Stacy Van Dyke, Carrie Beth Van Dyke and Christian Van Dyke.
He and his father, Dick Van Dyke, returned to television in the Hallmark Channel movie, Murder 101 (2006).
Has four children: Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, Wes Van Dyke and Taryn Van Dyke. Shane Van Dyke (who also had a small running role as medical student "Alex Smith" on Diagnosis Murder (1993)), and Carey Van Dyke guest-starred in two episodes of Diagnosis Murder (1993) written by their father. Barry and Carey Van Dyke wrote the very last episode of Diagnosis Murder (1993) (in the 8th season), called The Blair Nurse Project (2001).
Became a grandfather in 2001 when his oldest son, Carey Van Dyke, and his wife, Anne, had a baby girl on July 26, 2001. The baby's name is Ava.
Filming with his sons (Shane Van Dyke and Carey Van Dyke), and father (Dick Van Dyke) Murder 101: The Locked Room Mystery (2008) for the Hallmark Channel.
