Tydings, former U.S. Representative (1923-1927) and U.S. Senator from Maryland (1927-1951). Alexandra is also the great granddaughter of Joseph E. Davies, first Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (for President Woodrow Wilson), US Ambassador to the USSR, Belgium and Luxemburg (for President Franklin D. Roosevelt). By virtue of Davies' second marriage, Alexandra is also the step great granddaughter of Marjorie Merriweather Post and step niece of Dina Merrill.
