Biography

Derek N. Twist was born on May 26, 1905 in Paddington, London, England, UK. He was a director and writer, known for The 39 Steps (1935), Prescription for Murder (1958) and All Over the Town (1949). He was married to Vida Hope and Nessie Charlesworth. He died on August 15, 1979 in Chelmsford, Essex, England, UK.

One of his most highly regarded pieces of work was the editing of nearly four hours of films down to 81 minutes for the final version of The Edge of the World (1937).

Michael Powell said, "The Edge of the World (1937) was saved by Derek Twist. He had the eye of a hawk, the memory of an Indian and a heart of granite.".

A solicitor's son, he started work at Gaumont British in the 1930s.
