Biography

Jonathan Tunick was born on April 19, 1938 in New York City, New York, USA. He is a composer and actor, known for Find Me Guilty (2006), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and Beauty and the Beast (2017).

Won Broadway's 1997 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for "Titanic." He was nominated in the same category three other times: in 2000 for "Marie Christine," in 2001 for "Follies," and in 2003 for "Nine The Musical."

The seventh person and fourth man to receive the status of EGOT. The other recipients (chronologically) are Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg, Scott Rudin, Robert Lopez, Andrew Lloyd Webber,Tim Rice, John Legend, Alan Menken, Jennifer Hudson, Viola Davis, and Elton John.

Won a 1989 Grammy Award for his adaptations of Stephen Sondheim melodies in collaboration with Dame Cleo Laine for the album "Cleo Sings Sondheim".
