At one point, Calvin and Alice Trillin owned a barn in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia, where they decamped with their daughters every summer and made movies about robbers and princesses and projected them onto the wall of their barn.

Had two daughters, Abigail and Sarah, with his late wife, Alice Stewart Trillin, who died, aged 63, on 9/11 (the day of the September 11th attacks) from unrelated heart failure, the result of radiation therapy for lung cancer with which she had been diagnosed in the 1970s. The treatments irreparably damaged her heart.
