Niki Triantafyllidi
Niki Triantafyllidi was a Greek actress, director, and writer whose multifaceted career combined performance, teaching, and theatrical creation. The daughter of composer Panos Triantafillidis, she trained at the National Theatre Drama School and made her stage debut in 1963 in Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba with Aleka Katselli's troupe, going on to collaborate with notable directors such as Alexis Minotis and Minos Volanakis while also appearing in Greek cinema. She expanded her activity into directing early on, briefly serving as artistic director of the "Christianiko Theatro," where she staged Eugene O'Neill's Days Without End, and earning recognition with a directing award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival for her short film To synithismeno mou oneiro (1970), followed by the Marika Kotopouli Prize for her stage work. Alongside her artistic career, she taught acting at major institutions including the State Theatre of Northern Greece and the Pelos Katselis school, and later founded her own theatre space in Athens, supporting new productions and younger artists. As a writer and translator, she adapted and reworked both classical and modern plays, often directing her own texts, with later projects including her interpretation of Lorca's Pirlimplin and Belisa and a final adaptation of Aristophanes' Ecclesiazusae, staged in tribute to her legacy. Her work reflected a deep commitment to theatre as a living art form, both on stage and behind the scenes, while her broader involvement in cultural initiatives and public life underscored her enduring presence in Greece's theatrical community.
