Award-winning Brazilian filmmaker, actor, environmentalist, producer and impact producer Bruno Fatumbi Torres is an alumnus of the Global Media Makers program by Film Independent (a U.S. Department of State initiative) and is regarded as one of the most relevant emerging artists in Brazil and Latin America. Combining multiple artistic and technical aptitudes, he has developed hybrid working systems for cinema and audiovisual production, often performing in several creative and production roles across his films, as well as a recognized sustainable production model for off-grid film sets. He holds a Master’s degree in Corporate Sustainability, Regulation and ESG Transparency from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), one of the world’s leading think tanks.
Throughout his career, Bruno has won more than 30 individual awards and is the founding partner of Fatumbi Films, a company exclusively dedicated to socially and environmentally responsible filmmaking. Through his participation in the Global Media Makers Residency in 2025, he became a member of Film Independent in Hollywood and a voting member of the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Early in his career, he received the SIGNIS/OCIC Award for the short film O Último Raio de Sol, an international recognition that marked his debut as a director and consolidated the human, ethical, environmental and existential themes that continue to shape his filmmaking.
In 2024, he joined the Projeto Paradiso Talent Network (Rede de Talentos Paradiso), which brings together leading Brazilian audiovisual professionals supported through international grants, mentorships and project development programs.
His short films have won more than 80 awards and have competed at festivals such as the Huesca International Film Festival, the Havana Film Festival (Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano) and the International Film Festival of Valencia - Cinema Jove. He also produced the short film Meu Amigo Nietzsche, which received more than 50 awards in Brazil and abroad, including Best Short Film (Audience Award) and the Fernand Raynaud Award at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
A member of the Brazilian Academy of Cinema for over a decade, he served on the selection committee for Brazil’s official submission to the Goya Awards in 2016, and in 2023 he was part of the selection commission for Brazil’s official feature film submission to the Academy Awards (Oscars®).
In 2022, he released his first feature film as both producer and director, A Espera de Liz, shot in Brazil and Venezuela. The production was recognized as the first in the history of Brazilian cinema to fully offset its carbon emissions, with transparent tracking and public online auditing. That same year, he received the Audience Design Award from the World Cinema Fund at the Berlin International Film Festival as a producer for the project A Onça, written and directed by Emanuel Lavor, a film that exposes the progressive and devastating deforestation of Brazil’s Cerrado biome. During the development of the project, Bruno also took part in a year-long producer training program at the Incubadora Paradiso, organized by Projeto Paradiso, after A Onça was selected as one of the three Brazilian projects of 2024 to receive mentorship and specialized tutoring.
In 2023, A Espera de Liz was a finalist at the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix (Brazilian Academy of Cinema) - the country’s most prestigious film award - in four categories, including Best Original Screenplay and Best First Feature Director, both authorial nominations for Bruno Fatumbi Torres.
In 2016, he served as Master of Ceremonies at the 18th Assembly of RedLAC (Network of Environmental and Social Funds in Latin America). In 2018, he served as Master of Ceremonies at the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Amazon Protected Areas Program (ARPA). In 2020, he became the first Brazilian artist to offset the carbon footprint of all his professional and personal activities through Brazilian carbon credit organizations Ecooar, Sustainable Carbon and Iniciativa Verde.
In 2025, he shot his second feature film as producer and director, Colmeia (currently in post-production), filmed in Brasília, Brazil, and in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The film is a co-production between Fatumbi Films, Dezenove Som e Imagens (Sara Silveira) and Quijote Films (Giancarlo Nasi), and explores the degradation of nature and the oppressive dynamics of contemporary capitalist systems.
Through his work, Bruno Fatumbi Torres has been recognized as one of the most expressive voices in the development of climate-driven narratives in contemporary cinema, whether as a producer, screenwriter or director, combining artistic rigor with environmental urgency.
In 2022, he received the spiritual name "Fatumbi" during his initiation into Ifá at the Oduduwa Temple in Nigeria, a formative experience that informs his artistic practice and relationship with territory, ancestry and ethics.
