Biography

Mayako Murata, professionally known as Mayako Torigai, was a Japanese model active during the 1980s. She competed in the Miss Japan pageant in 1982 and was featured in the Japanese edition of Playboy magazine. In 1983, she was selected as a "Bond Girl" in a special Japanese television contest with a 007 theme, broadcast by TV Asahi. The event was attended by actor Roger Moore, who was visiting Japan to promote the film Octopussy. Thanks to this recognition, Mayako made a brief appearance in the 1985 James Bond film A View to a Kill, appearing in a kimono at a party hosted by the character Max Zorin, though she had no speaking lines. As part of the movie's promotional campaign, she joined other models for a photo shoot at the iconic Château de Chantilly in France. Afterward, she made her debut as a singer by promoting the Japanese version of the film's theme song. An LP was released featuring her cover of Duran Duran's song of the same name. The film premiered on July 6, 1985, and the record followed shortly after, on July 20-suggesting it was a coordinated project officially approved by the film company. Mayako Torigai has since retired from the entertainment industry.
