Biography

Sakari Topelius was born on January 14, 1818 in Kuddnäs, Uusikaarlepyy, Finland. He was a writer, known for The Green Chamber of Linnais (1945), Rautakylän vanha parooni (1923) and Jos rakastat (2010). He was married to Maria Emilie Lindqvist. He died on March 12, 1898 in Koivuniemi, Sipoo, Finland.

Graduated in 1833. Doctor of Philosophy and after retiring, Councillor of State.

Was a significant author and journalist, an important figure in Finnish cultural life, and a teacher and later the principal of the University of Helsinki. Was instrumental in changing the Finns' views of themselves and their country.

Was father of six children: Aina (b. 1846), Michael (b. 1848), Toini (b. 1854), Eva (b. 1855), Rafael (b. 1857) and Rosa (b. 1859). Unfortunately, Michael, Rafael and Rosa died in infancy.
