Biography

His first name was Anthony and he was educated at Lordswood Technical Grammar School for Boys. After schooling, he became a G.P.O clerical worker and caught the acting bug at the GPO Amateur Theatricals Drama School. From there, he got his first job which launched him to fame in playing Sandy in Crossroads.

Although widely believed to eventually require his character Sandy Richardson's wheelchair in real-life, he remained fully able to walk and drive; the chair did come in handy for respite during long scenes however, given his regular radiotherapy sessions from the mid-70s on.

Partner for almost a decade of fellow Crossroads (1964) actor Sonia Fox until his February 1981 death from cancer.
